Ramsell Honored by the Oakland African-American Chamber of CommerceCompany Receives 2013 Oscar J. Coffey Small Business Award for its Contributions to Improving the Quality of Life in Oakland
Oakland, Calif., November 20, 2013 – Ramsell, a leading provider of innovative solutions for organizations that serve the underserved, was honored by the Oakland African-American Chamber of Commerce (OAACC) with this year’s Oscar J. Coffey Small Business Award for its significant contributions to improving the lives of Oakland and Alameda County residents.
Oscar J. Coffey, Jr. was the founder of the Black Chamber of Commerce for Oakland and later became the president of the U.S. African-American Chamber of Commerce. "Ramsell's support of marginalized health and correctional populations exemplifies the award's namesake, Oscar Coffey, who was committed to making a difference in the local community, as well on a state and national level," said Wil Hardee, president and CEO of OAACC.
Ramsell has a long heritage in Oakland and the state of California. In 1964, Ramsell founder Sylester Flowers opened the first of many pharmacies in Oakland. Since then, Ramsell has provided innovative solutions to underserved populations – from administering public health programs for the City of San Francisco's Mental Health Department, managing California’s AIDS Drug Assistance Program and now working with Alameda County’s low income health program and behavioral health services.
"We're honored to receive this recognition from the Oakland African-American Chamber of Commerce," said Eric Flowers, CEO of Ramsell. "Our commitment to public health has been an integral part of our company’s mission since its inception almost 50 years ago and serves as the guiding force as we address the growing need for access to affordable healthcare and services."
Ramsell has been creating positive outcomes for the health and safety of underserved populations since 1964. We help organizations maximize limited resources through cost-effective coordination of care and services for complex populations managed by public health programs, education and corrections.
