Texas Department of State and Health Services Renews Contract with Ramsell
Company Provides Cost-Effective Management of Drug Assistance Program
Oakland, Calif., March 23, 2009 - Ramsell, a pharmacy benefit manager and information management company, today announced its contract to provide a pharmacy benefits solution for the Texas Department of State and Health Services' HIV State Pharmaceutical Assistance Program (SPAP) has been renewed.
The HIV SPAP is designed to assist Texas HIV Medication Program (THMP) members who are eligible for Medicare Part D drug benefits with their out-of-pocket medication costs, including co-payments, deductibles and coinsurance. The HIV SPAP was established in January 2008 when the state transitioned eligible THMP recipients with Medicare to the new program. Ramsell has administered the program since its inception.
Ramsell manages the state's pharmacy network management, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid SPAP data exchange process, and the help desk services in addition to administering payments. In the past year, Ramsell has built a network of more than 2,000 pharmacies across the state and processed over 54,500 prescriptions to serve over 1,100 members enrolled in the HIV SPAP program.
"By helping cover medication costs for HIV-positive individuals, the Texas State Pharmacy Assistance Program has enhanced the quality of life for patients," says Sophia Byndloss, President of Ramsell. "In these challenging economic times, public health systems need to provide more services with fewer resources to meet the needs of more patients. Ramsell prides itself on helping states manage drug assistance programs easily, efficiently and cost-effectively. We look forward to building upon our previous success in Texas."
The Texas HIV SPAP solution is one of several offerings in Ramsell's pharmacy benefit management portfolio. The company has more than 15 years of experience in managing state drug assistance programs, including those in California and Washington.
