A HISTORY OF CARING

Since 1964, the Ramsell family of companies has been dedicated to serving the underserved through their business and personal commitments.

1964
– Sylester Flowers opens his first retail pharmacy, The Apothecary, which grows into a chain of pharmacies primarily serving inner-city communities

1967
– Flowers founds Ramsell Corporation, named after the street he lived on at the time, as a holding company for the pharmacies

1972
– Ramsell starts working with the City of San Francisco’s Department of Mental Health to address the city’s opiate drug abuse epidemic in San Francisco’s impoverished Western Addition neighborhood. Flowers is later appointed Pharmacy Director for this program

1982
– Ramsell develops the first outpatient prescription plan and fiscal intermediary program for San Francisco’s Mental Health Department using a custom-built software program

1992
– Ramsell begins developing and implementing an outpatient prescription benefit program for San Francisco County’s residents living with HIV and AIDS

1993
– Ramsell implements the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) in San Francisco County

1994
– Eric A. Flowers, current President and of Public Health Service Bureau, joins Ramsell Corporation as a Vice President

1995
– Ramsell manages ADAP implementation in Santa Barbara County

1996
– San Mateo County chooses Ramsell for an ADAP implementation

1997
– Ramsell wins a competitive bid with the State of California for a contract to consolidate all county ADAP programs. Ramsell completes this process in 90 days

2000
– Ramsell is chosen to administer California ADAP services through 2005

2001
– State of Washington awards Ramsell a contract to administer its APDP program

2003
Flowers Heritage Foundation starts with an educational grant to Howard University
– The contract to administer ADAP services for Washington State is extended through 2006

2005
– Ramsell becomes Ramsell Holding Corporation, creating subsidiaries representing each independent line of business
– Public Health Service Bureau is formed as a LLC.
– Public Health Service Bureau wins a new contract with the State of California to administer its ADAP program through 2008.
– The Flowers Heritage Foundation becomes a non-profit (501c3) organization dedicated to providing solutions for public health issues affecting the underserved.

2006
– Public Health Service Bureau wins contract to administer ADAP services for Washington State through 2009.
– The Flowers Heritage Foundation provides funding for 22 waitlisted ADAP patients in Montana.
– The Flowers Heritage Foundation launches “Don’t Turn Your Back on AIDS,” an annual AIDS awareness art scholarship program for San Francisco Bay Area high school students.

2008
- Public Health Service Bureau become Ramsell Public Health Rx.
