JOB TITLE: Technical/Proposal Writer
REPORTS TO: Product Line Manager
DIRECT REPORTS: N/A
FLSA Status: Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:

The Technical/Proposal Writer will leverage the full extent of experience to develop all user-facing product materials. The Technical/Proposal Writer will be responsible for developing, writing and managing all product documentation, creating online help, tutorials and will assist in developing/enhancing training programs. The Technical/Proposal Writer may also assist with development of use cases, test plans and System Boundary Documents as part of the product development process.

The Technical/Proposal Writer will work closely with subject matter experts on the business team and the Technical/Proposal team to ensure proper translation of business requirements into user-friendly, business-focused user materials. The Technical/Proposal Writer will document each of the features and functionality of products using clear step-by-step, easy-to-understand instruction.

The Technical/Proposal Writer will also develop content for proposals, using Qvidian to develop content in response to RFPs. The Technical/Proposal will also maintain an updated answer library and standard product exhibits.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop an integrated documentation process for print materials and online help
  • Write and manage all user documentation across products, including online and print versions
  • Develop schedules to map out product documentation to coincide with product release schedules; ensuring all documentation is delivered on schedule
  • Assist Product Line Manager with documenting features and functionality to be prioritized for future development
  • Assist with development of training programs, including recorded, on-demand training, training plans and training materials
  • Write content for proposals
  • Maintain answer library for Ramsell’s RFP software, Qvidian
  • Contribute to product-focused content to proposal content management system

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, write, update, and manage all product documentation, including:
    • User manuals
    • Release notes
    • Online help
    • Training materials
    • Training plans
  • Participate in the product development process and assist with development of System Boundary documents early in the process
  • Convert business requirements and Technical descriptions/diagrams into user-friendly materials
  • Confirm documentation usefulness by forming tests groups; observing product use; interviewing users
  • Improve documentation by evaluating frequently asked questions; interviewing help desk and Technical support specialists and users
  • Write new product training supplements and announcements of new product features
  • Contribute user-focused product content and supporting materials in proposal process
  • Update product documentation as exhibits, such as standard reporting packages, as needed
  • Assist in product testing and documentation of required changes, as needed
  • Assist in training, as needed
  • Write proposal content and keep answer library current
  • Keep proposal exhibits up to date

REQUIREMENTS::

  • Minimum of 3 years writing experience (Must show work samples)
  • Previous experience with documentation for SaaS products
  • Knowledge of leading documentation tools and documentation delivery options
  • Working knowledge of Technical software (e.g. Robo Help) for publishing online help and RFP software preferred
  • Experience in preparing, implementing and maintaining online and print documentation
  • Solid knowledge of the documentation process from design to release
  • Excellent creative and Technical/Proposal writing, editing and coordination skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Able to work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Able to grasp vague concepts and distill information into documents
  • Excellent time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Must be able to shift priorities and move to new task quickly as well as easily adapt to change, handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and changing demands
  • Able to follow a style guide outline, including brand and UI style guides
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products and Adobe Professional

  • Desired but not required:
    • Skills with various graphics software (Adobe Photoshop)

EDUCATION:

  • BA in Journalism, English, Marketing, Technical or related field or equivalent experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Predominately sedentary office position with high frequency of keyboarding/computer work required (80% to 100%) of the workday
  • Close vision required
